The Persol brand – acquired by Luxottica in 1995 – began its story in Turin in 1917, when the optician and photographer Giuseppe Ratti created the Protectors, state-of-the-art sunglasses designed to provide ultimate comfort, protection and vision for aviators and sports drivers. Persol – short for “per il sole”, “for the sun” – immediately forged the identity which it has kept ever since: a vocation for excellence and outstanding quality, supreme craftsmanship and attention to detail, technological innovation and style. The distinctive arrow shaped hinges, inspired by the swords of ancient warriors, make every pair of Persol glasses instantly, and globally, recognizable. Especially because of the close ties that Persol began to forge with the world of cinema, in the 1960s when Marcello Mastroianni wore them in “Divorce Italian style”; ties which still remain strong to this day.
To celebrate its 100th anniversary, Persol produced a stunning, exclusive creation, the 9649SG Limited Edition. With a production of only 200 handmade units, these glasses encapsulate the charm and elegance of Persol’s most iconic details, using, for the very first time, 18 carat gold. The unique gold etching on the inside of the temples certifies the limited edition model and indicates the date of Persol’s centenary celebrations, ensuring that every 9649SG Limited Edition specimen is truly one of a kind. The Gold 750 mark on the base of the Persol Arrow hinges, helps to make the 9649SG Limited Edition even more prestigious.
