Jackie’s tailor. The creator of the most elegant woman in the world, Oleg Cassini, was born in Paris in 1913 and graduated at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence. A little experience in his mother Tuscan boutique and then off, flying to New York and to success. He paid his dues in the Seventh Avenue, now called the Fashion Avenue. A long road that took him to the Hollywood Studios where he designed the costumes for numerous films, including ‘The Razor’s Edge’, the precious wardrobe of Audrey Hepburn and, indeed, Jackie Kennedy. It was 1961 when Jacqueline Lee Bouvier Kennedy, in a press release, appointed him as her official designer.
Accustomed to always dress beautiful and famous women as costume designer for 20th Century Fox, Loiewksy Oleg Cassini, conquered Mrs. Kennedy and the whole world that admired her perfect style, offering a new look, a new interpretation of the First Lady.
Coats, hats and frocks designed with passion by Oleg Cassini started to appear in the White House wardrobe for the ideal wife for the ideal president. In 1962 Cassini drew the entire wardrobe for Jackie’s visit to India. Oleg-dressed, Jackie became ‘Ameriki Rani’, the queen of America, for all the Indians.
