Starting with ‘Clockwork Orange’, the Turin-based artist, Milena Canonero, has collected a success after another gathering nine Academy Award nominations and four Oscars, the latest one for The Grand Budapest Hotel by Wes Anderson in 2015. But the triumphs of the most beloved Italian costume designer in the world do not stop here: the commission of the Berlin International Film Festival decide to honor her work awarding her the Golden Bear for Lifetime Achievement.
Milena Canonero’s career is long: after having completed her studies in Costume History and Art in Genoa, she moved to London in the late sixties. Thanks to her then companion, journalist Riccardo Aragno, she met Kubrick and his wife Christiane. Her costumes had already appeared in an advertisement by director Hugh Hudson, but Clockwork Orange, Milena Canonero’s big screen debut, was to be her ticket to fame.
The prise will be presented to her on February 16 during the Golden Bear award ceremony, on the occasion the Berlin Internationa Film Festival will screen Shining by Stanley Kubrick, for which, of course, Milena Canonero designed the costumes.
